"Katherine Dore of Prospect Heights in Brooklyn said she was about four hours late to her job as a television producer in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. Taking the subway took her 20 minutes longer than usual, she said, but the big delay was her mother-in-law's roughly four-hour commute from the Delaware Water Gap area of Pennsylvania to Manhattan to watch Dore's two children."

"My kids were really happy because I got to stay home for part of the day," Dore said.
