local place to work/linger?
heidikins
Now that Sage is long gone, I am in need of a local hang-out/coffee shop type of place where I can meet someone and work/linger over a coffee or two. I'd rather not head to the slope. Any ideas?

homeownerBristens is more of a restaurant type place, but I don't think they'd mind if you ordered some coffee and hung out for a while, especially if its not during prome Saturday/Sunday brunch time. -
carillonatorcheck out the Outpost, on Fulton btwn Classon and Grand. awesome, good coffee and food. -
xlizellxi think bristens has a $5 minimum to hang out...but they do have wifi.
purity diner on dean and underhill. -

luk-hantony is the owner of fishers. ever since i moved to the city he has been nothing but nice to me. after a year of shopping in there i got to know the fisher family and their plans for the future of franklin. thats all. -
sandcastlerGimmee!™ coffee is really good. I buy it by the bag on Lorrimer Street once in a while. It is more expensive than Porto Rico coffee (Bleecker Street), but even I can taste the difference. -
xlizellxtony is one of the first guys to ever make me feel welcome in the neighborhood as well when i first moved here a few years ago - very friendly and accomidating.
that's what's going in next to 95south? or is 809 on the east side of franklin? that is very exciting news. -

which is why you're pm'ing me to ask about my cat litter preferences?*
listen, i think it's fine for fishers' employees to post here, but be honest about it.

shakeFisher's is one of the worst supermarkets around! I hope the coffee shop isn't a reflection of the crummy, poorly run supermarket. However, the people are nice. -
floI'm with Shake here. Have always found the people at Fishers to be pleasant, but this supermarket couldn't even boast of having a fresh piece of lettuce or a vegetable as recently as say five years ago. Shilling it is I say. They should transform first and advertise second. -
redstripeSubject: hang out
outpost is a favorite of mine, especially their patio.....Homage is great to hang with friends, but no real coffee, beer and wine, abigails, well, and there is no real hanging at chavellas.. -
sweet teaoh, back to the OP's question, i recommend bristen's. it's nice and has wifi. throw some money their way -- i don't want to lose that place! -
capt. planetAssemblyman Karim Camara has been talking like forever about bringing a coffee shop/art gallery to Nostrand. It apparently would be some hook-up with Medgar Evers College. You might want to give him a shout-out at 718-756-1776 to find out the latest. God knows Nostrand could use a good coffee shop! -
lilbangladeshOh yes! A coffee shop within walking distance! That would be awesome!
I love Nostrand anyway, and do most of my food shopping there. It's where I conduct my continuing affair with Caribbean food. BUT there is no good place to hang out with a cup o' joe. Hell, I'd hang out in such a spot even if they don't have wifi. (Remember the days when people would bring a book? And then start conversations with each other about what they were reading? I date myself, I know.) -

At one point he was talking about the failed Natural Foods store between Lincoln Place and EPW. Great location. Is anything in there yet?
