Is it legal for them to play music external to the establishment? Isn't that some sort of violation of a noise ordinance? It's usually a violation to my ears I know that.

I believe they are (technically) required to have a sound device permit from the NYPD precinct (78th, in their case). If they're bothering you, call the precinct (718 636 6411 or call the community affairs officer directly at 718 636 6410) and ask if they have a permit (doubt you'll get anywhere with NYPD, so next step might be to call Community Board 6, 718 643 3027 and then put in a noise complaint with DEP by calling 311)

If you haven't already, you could try asking the manager about it first before making a complaint.

I used to live directly across from that place and the music never bothered me. If hearing music as you walk by bothers you that much, maybe you should forget about 311 and seek a therapist instead.

I walked by it the other day and it doesn't really bother me, but I'm against gratuitous noise pollution on principle...it's not like that speaker's going to draw people into the business. It's just one more little thing that helps make the neighborhood shittier than it needs to be.

I think the twenty or some odd blocks directly southwest of Flatbush pretty much ensure the neighborhood's shittiness without any help from that speaker.

Gotta go with O-nut on this one because of his sound advice here :) . (Holy crap--that was a bad pun.)

I think the twenty or so last obamanut posts pretty much will ensure the same adjective comes to mind when we read future posts from this "speaker".
