Subject: Totonno's Fire

Huge fire at Totonno's in Coney Island today. Damage looks really really bad. Pretty much destroyed. So tragic.

AP News reported it : http://www.silive.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/news-42/123706945599790.xml&storylist=simetro

According to www.totonnos.com "Totonno’s is the oldest continuously operating pizzeria in the U.S. run by the same family." Hard to imagine a world before Pizza Hut and Domino's.

sorry to hear that - but did they not sell the business a few years back?

I think that may be right. Yet, it's kind of like Nathan's burning down. Nathan's, dogs; Totonno's, pizza. Hopefully whoever owns it now will rebuild.

Subject: looks like Totonnos will try to reopen in 4-6 weeks!

My Totonno's Tribute - hope the fire didn't cause that must damage as this was truly an NYC icon! I am happy to hear that they feel they can reopen in a month+

I did a shoot there 3 weeks ago - here are the images -> :wink:http://danmarinophoto.com/__cl/totonnos

Man, I do hope they can rebuild. For me, Totonno's is as big as a draw to Coney Island as the Cyclone.

They are reopening - thought is 6 weeks but dehpends on extent of damage - i will be first in line! maybe it will be like the good old days when the original owner closed shop when he ran out of dough and he also kicked you out of line if he felt like it - many people believe this is where the Seinfeld soup nazi idea came from....

Come on Totonno's - reopen soon! tastebuds are patiently waiting.

Here is my recent shoot at Totonno's about 3 weeks before the fire -> http://danmarinophoto.com/__cl/totonnos

I strongly suspect that the owners of Totonno's did not expand, but rather licensed their name (and possibly their recipe/techniques) to a restaurant company which then opened several new restaurants under the Totonno's name.

In other words, I doubt that the owners of Totonno's also own the new shops.
