Heard the sirens and saw this story:

Any idea where this was? The article gives only the helpful description "Crown Heights"

I read somewhere (sorry I can't cite it) it was Pacific near Brooklyn or Kingston. Most people today think of this as Crown Heights, but it used to be considered Bed Stuy by many.

Yeah, there was another fire, in the apartment building right next door to the cleaners. It appeared to be limited to one of the apartments on the third floor. I think that the reponse was so great due to all of the recent fires. The firemen came in, emptied out the building and isolated the fire in the apartment and managed to bring the whole thing under control in less than a half-hour.

The fire was directly across from my bedroom window, so I had a pretty good view of the entire event. Never saw any flames, but there was plenty of smoke. It looked like it started in a bedroom or living room, and there were plenty of firefighters looking around, but unlike all of the other fires that we've been seeing it actually started in an apartment rather than in the common areas or hallways.

Subject: Helping out the families who lost their homes?

Has anyone set up a fund to help out our fellow neighborhood residents who lost their homes?

based upon what I've seen for the past couple of days, it looks like only a small number of apartments were affected in Friday's fire. It looked/looks like it was mainly limited to the apartment where the fire was. Everyone else looks like they are back in the building. I know that there was talk on the ph thread about setting up a fund for the families affected by the fire(s) on Pacific, but haven't seen any other info.

ETA: Just read an article that said the family killed in Friday's fire attended the mosque located on Bedford and Fulton. The folks at the mosque have been assisting the father and other relatives. That may be a good place to start to see if some sort of fund has been established.
