How Hard is it to Build a Flash Website?
MOD
I have HTML and Dreamweaver training. But never really worked with flash. Have vague memories of layering, though that doesn't help.
Any website people out there that can tell me if this is something I can learn on my own with out a class, what software I'd need?

opossumqueenDon't do it!! Flash ruins perfectly good websites

carmenI can possibly point you in the right direction, my friend is a flash guru and hes bored as shit and without work (and doing pro-bono "fun" jobs.) Depending on how much help you need he may be able to send you in the right direction -
scarlettMy Russian friend wanted to kill herself when she was taking a class to learn it. Maybe she can give you her book though. -
squindarI wouldn't put any content in flash on a website until apple finally supports it on the iphone....imho full-page/full-site flash is only appropriate for situations where the browsing environment is controlled by the developer, i.e. kiosks. -
boygabrielHow hard is it? Or should you?
It's not terribly hard, it's just more graphically and visually oriented than HTML site building, so it's a different kind of computer skill you'll have to learn.
Should you? Who knows, but as stated above, Flash is way over-used and in truth has limited practical applications. -
carnivoreThe New York Times has done some great things with Flash on their site.
Some examples:

I saw that and figured people would know that NYT wouldn't have a NSFW graphic. If you mouseover the truncated link name, you can see that it is actually "CLASS GRAPHIC." -

True, but also beyond that most Flash elements used on websites today involve some amount of scripting/programming using ActionScript. It's not terribly complex, but also is a skill that someone who has done only basic html sites using Dreamweaver might not want to get into. -
boygabrielInteresting. I'm not familiar ActionScript.
