Hi

Just wanted to see if any one knows if renting on 11st street btw 7 and 8 would be a good idea. There seems to be a big fire station right on that block. Are they very noisy? I used to live across the "pride of manhattan" 8ave & 48str fire station in Midtown; that was a nightmare!

Thanks in advance!!

The sirens usually kick on when the get closer to 7th ave so depending on what part of the block you are on will determine how noisy it is. There's some other minimal noise from time to time when they have to test equipment, move the trucks around, etc. but nothing too crazy.

I'm on the corner of 7th and the trucks usually wait until they get to the corner to flash their lights and sound the horns. If you're in the middle or closer to the station, it shouldn't be a problem. I've gotten used to it and it's not too bad. I do wish they would ease up on the horn honking though.

If they were going to YOUR house would you want them to ease up on the horn??

i wanted to add that whenever i'm walking home alone at night i nearly always take 11th street past the firehouse. the guys are often outside, the door isn't locked, it makes me feel safe.

maybe it's a false sense of security, but as a single woman i'd feel comfy living on the block, noise and all.
