Subject: Child friendly restaurant near the Children's Museum

any suggestions for a low-key restaurant for kids (seven years old) within walking distance of the children's museum? We are having a birthday party there and want to avoid having to transport the kids elsewhere.

Greek diner on Washington could probably handle it. ...lots of space, durable furniture, big menu.

...they have hamburgers and fries, but probably no chicken nuggets.

That's not close to the children's museum for little-kid legs. it's like 1.2 miles away or something.

I can't think of anything in the area. i googled and trip advisor couldn't recommend anything within a mile either.

Applebees is about 5 blocks North at Fulton.

How about the picnic tables in Brower Park? Pretty nice spot there. Kids can go nuts and run around. Weather must cooperate though.

You can actually throw a kids party AT the Museum. Rent a room, whatnot. Not sure how much it is. But- they also have a cafeteria on site, as well, so even if you brought a whole lotta kids, they could chow down there.

We checked that out. It is 600 dollars. More power for them to have such a successful fundraising device, but a little much for a seven year old. And in order to prevent parties on the dl they will allow you to make a reservation in the cafeteria but won't let you bring in a cake. I've suggested smuggling in the fixins and making it in the fake bakery downstairs but so far I have been overruled. So right now we have a reservation at a pizzeria over in Prospect Heights. Perhaps we can create some sort of scavenger hunt to encourage them to walk the ten blocks. I worry some might end up in East New York...

There is a pizzeria on Nostrand Avenue and Union. I think its slightly closer than the going to PH. Or you can try Bristens or Homage or the pizzeria on Franklin and Prospect.

Hey, PD- Yea, that IS a lot of money! So, the Applebees thing doesn't sound like its too far away, and kind of easy- but if you're not one for feeding the corporate/commercial machine... The park/picnic thing could actually be a LOT of fun, no? Provided the weather's good, of course.

10 blocks to walk a kid party is....well, its a lot to expect- and they tend to walk reeeeaaall sloooowww. What about getting a bunch of town cars to schlep everyone over? Make them give you some kind of deal?

The other thing I'm thinking is to check the bus routes that go to the museum- perhaps there's some place not nearby, but accessable via public transit.

Actually, why not try that toy store on Franklin (the name escapes me, but there is a thread on the boards somewhere)? They have a party room and it would still be a closer walk than PH.

yea, that place does look fun. But is it for 7 y/o's? It might be for younger kids.
It looks similar to that space in the back of Blue Marble.

What do 7 normal y/o's do anyway? (the ones I have worked with are not normal....)

i honestly think your best bet is bringing food to the cafeteria area of the museum or eating in the park - i assume you're having a couple of 7-year olds - and i can't think of a place around there that could seat a large group.

Thanks for all the responses. Seven year olds talk a lot, run, and are a lot of fun. If only they didn't have to be fed.

So we bought food at the cafeteria - $60 bucks for 9 kids. Then we went outside to the park for cupcakes. Success.
