we're in south slope, 8 unit building and our garbage guy (who is supposed to clean but doesn't) gets $75 a week. he also has to be given workman's comp, $75 a week.

i think this is insane. essentially, we pay $600 for garbage guy.

what does everyone else pay?

(please no snark, am posting this for my board))

I am sorry, but what is a 'garbage guy"? Is that someone who comes over twice a week to take out your garbage or does he clean garbage in your building? Wrap up recycling?

LTS aren't you a co-op owner? I assume it's one of those things associated with owning that I will never bre privy to.

you are paying way too much. for an 8 family you should give him $50 per week at the most. it takes 15 minutes to take out the garbage so it comes out to $100 per hour!

it sounds like he is not doing what he is suppose to do for the money you pay him. fire him and get someone else. for that kind of money you can pay a cleaning company to take out the garbage and clean the place.

landlord, what's the story with the fact that we've been told we need to get workman's comp for the guy? have you ever heard this?

Yes, I am a coop owner, but our building doesn't have anyone on the payroll . We pretty much do everything ourselves except fr]or repairs and major work, then we hire professionals on sn as needed basis.

BP, if this is just a guy who comes to take your garbage out, I don't see why you need workers comp for him, I am curious to see what others say

There are companies that will do this, you can check out http://www.nycpropertycare.com/ or
    http://www.perronemaintenance.com/

Since these are companies and not individuals if they can show you that they maintain worker's comp insurance for their employees then you should be covered.
