What time should I arrive to see David Byrne?

So, a portion of the Celebrate Brooklyn concert schedule has come out, and opening night is a free David Byrne show - June 8th at 8pm, which is amazing.

My question, is if the show is free, and there are no actual tickets (save for a portion of reserved spots for Celebrate Brooklyn donors,) what time should I get there to ensure I get in, and maybe get a decent spot?

realistic answer... probably 45 minutes before the start time of the concert. If you have your heart set for 3rd row have a picnic late afternoon and as soon as a line forms get on it.

Are we going to be expected to donate $300 to see the concert?

No, I don't think so... As far as I know, there will be a suggested donation, but it's only $3.00 - not too bad
