Nice area for kids

Hello all,

I am a current grad student who is looking to move to New York once I graduate in 2010. I am looking for an artist's community where I can get a lot of feedback from people and just be in the thick of it. I'm also looking for a nice area to raise kids. Any ideas? If not Brooklyn, maybe heading a little bit north of Manhattan?

    Off the top of my head:
    Williamsburg (but very hipster-ish, younger crowd, but lots of artists)
    Dumbo (professionals and artists)

    What ever you do, don't raise kids in Manhattan. Mamacita is correct in recommending williamsburg. Its the best place for a young artist. As far as raising a family goes, I would pick park slope.

    williamsburg - lots of artists
    dumbo - lots of successful artists
    park slope - lots of young parents
