Shredding in neighborhood?
longtimesloper
I just called a few shredding companies that I found by googling and either I can't get to them, or, if they are willing to come here, are out of my price range.
So, is there a place nearby (in park Slope) that I can just walk to where perhaps for a fee I can shred a half trash bag filled with old bills, cc statements, etc. myself?

danielle123At first, I thought you wanted to know where to go snowboarding in Park Slope ("shredding" being slang for snowboarding). -

Bring it to LongTimeSlopers's house, I lent her my shredder. -
idlewildWhy not buy one? A decent cross cutter should do the trick. I have a three year old Destroy It Model# 2402. It almost comes out like a fine mist. -

Thanks ring! LOL -
longtimesloperBTW, the 'shredder' that RR there gave me is a PITA. it is one of those that sits on top of garbage cans while you feed things through it, but, if you feed more than 2 1/2 pages at a time, you are screwed! but, it was nice of RR to lend it to me
.
Also, just so people know, I called Staples and the 2 copy shops on 7th Avenue, none of them do shredding. I also called a place I found online that said they would come to my house, but they charge $89.00 to do that, so, that idea was nixed. I did find a place in Sunset Park where you can bring your stuff to shred between the hours of 4 and 5 (doesn't work for me).
I guess what I really need to do is buy a decent shredder and shred things as I go instead of building up a huge ass bag of stuff. -
brooklynpotterlts, where in sunset park?
i have the cheapo shredder, it's useless -

LOl! i love you ringrunner! -
illigi've found the best way to deal with this is to buy a shredder and keep the thing wherever you toss your mail as you walk in the door... and shred immediately when you don't need something
the moment a pile forms it's "too much of a PITA" so you stop doing it
that said, for the $90 that i saw quoted, you can buy a nice home shredder... definitely able to go through a pile in an hour or two
also, i should warn against drunk shredding... unless you like getting replacement checks made, or calling companies to re-send a bill
-
brooklynpotterexcept you need to open the thick envelopes to shred the stuff, because you can't just chuck them in there because they will clog the machine.
if i had $90 to go buy a machine, i'd pay someone else to go do the shredding for me -
prezstsounds like a perfect business that's just begging to be opened in the neighborhood. i mean, how big of a space would you need? or else one could drive around in a truck, like that guy who sharpens knives.. -
brooklynboundI have a huge (HUGE) amount to shred. I am trying to shred it with my home shredder, but it keeps burning out every few papers. Any suggestions!!? I wish I could just burn them!!! -
brooklynboundShred it is quite cheap! And it's located at 20th and 3rd ave!! You can bring boxes in for 10 bucks a box. Yes!!! -
sir_ecclesSo, what you're saying is that I didn't need to sit down infront of the Tour de France on Sunday feeding page after page of "old shit that needed shredding" into my $20 Staples shredder for a few hours pausing now and then to let it cool down? -
brooklynboundYes! I did it too, for days. I was tired of that. Took two 13 gallon trash bags and they were shredded in two minutes right on the truck!! So awesome!!!! Only $10 a trash bag. They saved my life!!!! No more. I will shred a few times a week from now on!!
