I first heard this one last night on my way home. At 3:30 AM! It's a block away from me, on a street parallel to mine but my window faces that way. I've been working at home today and it's been bad enough here, I can only imagine what the people actually on the same block are hearing.

But in fact about 10 minutes after I made that first post it stopped. Hopefully the job's completed.

Where was it? I live off Manhattan on Greenpoint. I didn't hear anything. Last weekend, or the week before, a sidewalk shed was erected at the HSBC starting at 4AM. THAT was annoying.

Manhattan between Calyer and Meserole. They dug a trench from the sidewalk to the center line of the street, across the northbound traffic lane. For some reason; must be to get to one of the several underground pipes that they'd exposed. There weren't any recognizable utility guys around, just a handful of contractors, so I couldn't tell if they were going for water lines, sewer, electric... whatever.
