i know this sounds strange but...

i am in need of some moss to cover the dirt of some bonsai plants that i am growing. before i scour the park and rip up a bunch, i was wondering if anyone has ever seen moss for sale anywhere.

it does not necessarily have to be local as nyc is fine as well.

thanks!

BBG might have some in their gift shop (the one with plants, not the stationary and jewelry one).

Not that I think this the most egregious transgression in the world, but "ripping" things out of the park s'not so cool.

There's the "if everybody did it" argument, of course.

But more importantly from your perspective, I'm sure its barred by some statutue/rule/ordinace and ou could find yourself being handed a summons.

I thought the OP was joking about that.

Oh, and there's a table that sells bonsai's at the Saturday market at GAP. They might be able to tell you where to get some moss.

I'm thinking that if one of the florists in PS doesn't have it, you should be able to get it in that floral district in Manhattan (btw. 7th & 8th), just south of Penn Station.

But I think that any florist would sell you some.

there's a nursery on Flatbush by BAM.

There's a smaller nursery on Washington near Dean.

...both might be able to hook you up

I know Amazon sells moss for bonsai's. You could do what I do and just rip moss off the side of the cracks of some streets or the sides of buildings. The movie theatre on 15th & PPW usually has a ton growing on its 14th street wall.

The guy at the GAP's greenmarket who sells orchids also sells moss.
