Hey everyone,
I want to join a knitting group, but have never actually knit before!

Can anyone recommend a one-off knitting class or workshop for beginners?

Hey Kahvi, I teach knitting at Stitch Therapy in Park Slope. The last group class of the season is this Sunday June 14. You have to register by Friday.

But, WWWKIP Day is this Saturday at the central library. There is a "Learn to Knit" table. Get there early. WWWKIP Day start at 10:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM, so get there early.

Unfortunately I am booked up for Father's Day, but that Learn to Knit table sounds interesting! What would one need to bring in order to learn?

    Bring the basics:
    - 90 yards of worsted (medium) weight yarn
    - a pair of US #8 single point needles

Things are different on WWKIP Day. I would be willing to bet that if you showed up and asked nicely, you might get some one from one of the groups to show you the basics if the Learn to Knit table is full.

I think you need to be more specific. "Booze and yarn" describes just about every knitting group I know :-).

just like the title, it's a knitting group for drunkards  just kidding. well, i havent been going to their meetings for the last one year or so, but that was where i first learned knitting.

they usually meet every wednesday night, and there is always one or few beginners, so you wont feel so alone. and corinna, who started this knitting group, would teach anybody knitting even if you are beginner, for free. but usually people would give her tips in a jar on the table for her, or you can always buy her drinks. sometimes she would bring movies to watch together too. you can either get your own yarn and needles, or she could get them for you and you pay her later like i did. but you need to give her notice (email) in advance. here is the website: http://www.boozeandyarn.com/ but i recommend signing up for their mailing list for latest updates as the location may have changed.

this article describes the group pretty well. just start reading from the second half. http://www.bwog.net/index.php?page=post&article_id=3620
