You sure it was an explosion? Just one hour later, I heard the same thing....thanks for the 1:45AM thunderstorm, complete with a seeming direct strike.....

Anyone else getting tired of this?

I think I heard that too. I assumed it was thunder, but it was just one incredibly loud crack? Yeah that was pretty terrifying.

Forget the dog, I almost had a heart attack! I'm in support of the direct hit theory. I was actually startled away by what seemed like an electric flash right in my bedroom. And then the two big booms. I was still breathing fast after I went to check the other windows.

God bless you, bourbon, for letting me sleep through the night, oblivious to all noise and deadly explosions.

That WAS scary! Totally thought it was an explosion too, but the low rumble I heard after convinced me that it was a clap of thunder.

Shot me right out of bed - second time thunder has done that in a week. Wild.

All was quiet in my house. But nothing short of a sonic boom will wake me.

apparently i'm the soundest sleeper EVER--on a weird, selective basis. i didn't hear any of this, and i sleep against an outside wall with my head between two windows that don't block out any sound at all. seriously, i can hear someone toss a bottle in the trash at the other end of the block when i'm awake. but two nights ago i shot up in bed because i heard my cat make her "i'm going to puke!" meow from the bathroom.

threecee, the bolt must have been really close to you for it to have been that horrifying.

i was sound asleep, and it made me shoot straight out of bed with my heart racing. the whole house shook. i was fully expecting to see a smoldering crater outside my window. as all seem to believe, i now think it was a very close direct hit. now i wonder where exactly it did strike.

The bolt actually "landed" in front of my house. It was so bright I could see the streak through my very sleeping eyelids and hear the crackle at the sametime. Not an igna second later........BOOM!

Oh yeah, nothing gets your ass out of bed faster than that noise. I guess I'm weird, I like thunderstorms. I especially like sleeping during them but my dumbass dog can't keep her mouth shut when she hears thunder so no sleeping for me. :(

i love thunderstorms, and the cat doesn't generally flip out over them. but she jumped high in the air at this thunderclap, yowza

I'm glad I checked this thread because I actually thought I had hallucinated that sound as it was impossibly loud and went on for a long time. Woke right up, scared out of my mind.

i guess any good parent wakes up when the baby cries. O:) my girl is not afraid of thunder, but she waxes so dramatic about the hairballs you'd think she was a classically trained shakespearean hurler.

i love thunderstorms, too, especially with a lot of bright, sharp lightning. i have been known to pull my car over on the side of the road in the middle of them and gaze lovingly at the angry sky. but i would still be irked by one that woke me up in the middle of the night, so my sympathies to everyone who lost sleep to this one.
