A very sweet and clearly house-trained cat has decided to stalk me today. He approached my window and has been begging to get in all day. I may take him in as a guest, but in the meantime check the pics below. Anyone who owns him or knows his owners please call me (646-229-0474).

That looks like the vagabond cat that lives in the basement of my building, which fronts on E Parkway w/rear entrance on Lincoln near Washington.

    Can't be sure though.

Please do take him in if at all possible. No domestic cat should be outdoors in the city, where they can get hit by a car, starve--or much, much worse--believe me, I've seen it all :(

You can try posting "Found Cat" flyers to find the owner (if there is one). Also try Animal Care & Control, which keeps a database of lost/found pets: http://www.nycacc.org/lostandfound_old.htm

Feel free to PM me if you have questions/concerns--I live around the corner from there.

He's clearly asking for help. Please take him in at least temporarily while trying to find his owner.

    Subject: found cat

Please take him in. He looks like a nice cat that may have lost his family. I just can't help but think how it would be if one of our animals got lost and was wandering the streets alone. And the last cat we took in did the same thing of begging to get inside. We just couldn't say no and he is truly one of the nicest cats we've ever had.

Someone may be looking for him and would be eternally grateful for your compassion.

Well.. I took HER in around 5pm. Fed her some tuna. She was very sweet. My friend who helped me trap and neuter some ferals in my backyard last year came by and scanned the cat with this device -- up popped a serial number and a phone number. Turns out the cat lives 2 doors down! She must've been confused and thought my apartment was hers. Owners didn't even realize she was gone cause they let her roam back there. (Dangerous territory for cats.) I was THIS close to keeping her and calling her Michael, in honor of MJ and her black-n-white status.

    RIP Michael Jackson

"Owners didn't even realize she was gone cause they let her roam back there." Oh boy - they sound like winners  I hope they'll think twice from now on before letting her out.

Yup. We warned them of the dangers of cat gang activity. Kitty fights. Kitty diseases. And huge, mangy, terrifying raccoons!!!

Wow, great to know those microchips work and the kitty is home safe.

And a good reminder to keep your phone number on file updated: one of my cats was microchipped 11 years ago and I've gotten rid of my home phone since then, but never thought to change the number for the chip. Gonna do that today!

    How much does microchipping cost?

Got my dog from the ASPCA, which claimed to have chipped him (gave us the correpsodning paperwork w/serial number and everything), and when we took him to a local vet, they scanned him with two different canners and NO CHIP.

Vet said somethimes they work themselves out shortly after being injected, I assume that happened and it wasn't just negligence, but who know.

Thanks for any info anyone could provide.

prospect park animal clinic used to do the microchipping for free. they had some kind of grant or money from somewhere - i don't really remember. the pet owner did have to pay for a few small details, but amazing just the same. maybe they still offer that, check it out lo kee!

*they also accept muffins certificates - not the food. www.muffins.org
