Thinking of moving to this block. Would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Seems to be a busy block. Is that what you are looking for? I find that any block with buses running on it, seem to have a lot of traffic in general.

    Does this even help?

On Tompkins - yeah kind of busy, but...you're right near the sweet coffee shop (Common Grounds) with the back patio. And The Victorian (dusty but awesome vintage furniture) - where the owner is super great. Sidestreets are way nicer though.

thanks for the info. hate to ask this question (because i see lots of postings on the same topic, and i know it gets annoying) but i was wondering if you have any thoughts on safety on the block, esp. coming home from the subway late night. thanks!

Thompkins and Hancock. Hey, that's the block I got jumped a couple years ago. So there's that.

But I like that area. The guy that runs the furniture/architectural salvage shop there is super cool. I think Brooks Valley closed, too bad, I liked their food and they were good people.

It's a bit of a hike to the subway from there, so you might want to walk around at night and see what you think.

Jumped?! I am sorry to hear that.
Good suggestion. I'm going to take a walk around at night and see how I feel.
Thanks for all the input so far.

In which neighborhood do you currently live if you don't mind me asking?

I'm in Prospect Heights now. Lived in Crown Heights for 2+ years before that.

I like Prospect Heights a lot, especially the South West part.
Before moving to BedStuy I was also considering Crown Heights. I eventually picked BedStuy because of its proximity to the city (I have a car and work in Manhattan) and Williamsburg (I have some relatives living there). Also I had the impression that BedStuy was safer.

Yes, PH is really nice. I wouldn't move if I didn't have to.
Interesting - also get the feeling that Bed-Stuy is safer and friendlier than CH. So you have felt safe in Bed-Stuy?

I have so far. But I am a guy, which may make a difference.
I think that if you are nice with people in general, it should be ok.
You should pick a place close to a busy street and public transportation if you don't drive.

    One last comment:
I'd suggest that you take the subway to the G stop, Bedford-Nostrand, after work around 5:30pm-6:30pm. Then walk down Nostrand Avenue to Fulton Avenue. Pay especially attention to the block you are interested in. On Fulton Avenue, you can then take the A/C back to Downtown Brooklyn.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate your input.
I did walk around the area the other evening, and felt fine, though I did have a few comments from guys passing by. Nothing threatening, but mildly annoying.
