Loud teenagers in my backyard

Last night the manpanion called me to the window to try to identify the animal noises coming from behind our building. After a minute or so of peering around in the dark, we spotted the culprits... lo and behold, 'twas two young-looking raccoons loudly making baby raccoons. Hot teenage raccoon action! Right on top of the wall separating our yard from the neighbors. Kids today! HAVE THEY NO SHAME?

Anyway, this is the first I've seen raccoons in north slope (I'm on 1st)... I've seen them in the twenties, but never over here. Anyone else encountered these hooligans?

Maybe Dolores' kids moved to my hood! I'll have to consider naming them if they keep coming around. I remember reading someone else's post a while back about raccoons trying to chew through his screen. I don't mind them hanging around, but if they try to get in, I will freak the F out.

9th street .. racoon action at sunset. He walks the fence and seems to be headed up to Mc Donalds.. Noticed him 3 nights in a row.

I had one come up to my sliding glass door and peer in. Last year -- 5th Avenue/2nd Street.

I tend to see a racoon early mornings (between 6:00 - 6:30 AM) on PPW headed towards the park. Usually around 1st/Garfield. I have seen him/her about 3 times in 2 weeks.

Can't you get him a membership at the Co-op, veets?? C'mon- he's a fellow Park Sloper and should be able to have the same amenities as all you's...

First they'll have to find him one of their neon co-op vests.

The two of you made me laugh.
He is huge and kinda scarey.
Last few nights he has kept his distance and not come down from the fence. He is just passing through on his way to somewhere else. Perhaps he is going to Aji and not Mc Donalds. I hope not! They have a gaeden in back of Aji.. would definitely spook the customers.

    torisoaw,

where on 1st St are you? Two summers ago, there was a huge Rocky Raccoon on the adjacent deck on Garfield, bet. 8th and the Park, on the south side - that is, the back yard which abuts the ones on 1st Street.
Later, he was way, way up in a tree in the same yard, on a spindly branch that swayed a bit under his weight.

He was making quite a sound, one of many, I understand, that those critters can make.

That might have been me. Last Summer, I had a hole in my kitchen screen that looked like something had tried to squeeze through it. There were 3 other "raccoon break-ins" on my block the prior few weeks to that, including one where the owner took a photo of a very large friggin racoon (with red devil eyes, no less). ;-) Not sure how to guard against this since I need to keep my kitchen window open to get a cross breeze.

Suggestion, anyone (besides having to spend $600 to get bars on my kitchen window)?

Forget $600 bars! You can get a gun and coon skin hat for less.

Wire mesh is a good idea - thanks!
