    It has been difficult for many years.

    There is a historical plaque somewhere in the plaza that tells the story of GAP. If I recall correctly, the plaque states there was at one time a "DEATH-O-METER" posted on the plaza, to count pedestrian deaths

    Fortunately NYC DOT used a lot of our taxpayer money to make pedestrian and bicycle improvements to the plaza last fall. For better or worse most DOT safety improvements in general are predicated on the presumption that people will not jaywalk. But they do. So I'm not sure how much benefit there will be.
