Renters insurance recs for homes with bully breeds?

I'm finally trying to get my act together and get renter's insurance again (I know, I know...should have done this a long time ago), and I'm hoping some of you might be able to help. I have two pit rescues, and I'm having a heck of a hard time finding a company who will insure me!

Have any of you dealt with this and been able to find renter's insurance? I'm happy to do the legwork myself, but I'd appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction. It's getting really frustrating to get through the whole quote process only to be instantly cut off when they find out the breed of my dogs.

I've tried Travelers, Allstate, and Liberty Mutual (Geico redirected me to them). This stinks.

i dont think animals ever fall under renters insurance

you would need to look under pet insurance. The apt and pets tend to be separate in my experience.

have you tried calling them "staffordshire terriers" instead? just refer to them as mixed breeds or something. "pit bull" isn't a breed, anyway, it's just a description that covers a collection of physical characteristics. this is such a goofy thing for insurance to get held up over--i've known so many pitties that were absolute angels. racial profiling is wrong, liberty mutual!

Brokechick, that's what I did last time I had renter's insurance and it worked, but they're hip to the lingo now. They've broken it down into several distinct breeds that they list out. One of mine is a Staffordshire and the other is APBTish. And, you're right, this is all so silly! I think this is the list most of them are going by: Pit Bulls, Staffordshire Terriers, Chows, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, Bull Mastiffs, Great Danes, Presa Canarios, Syberian Huskies, Any Wolf Hybrid or any mix of the above breeds.

I will absolutely let you guys know if I find something!

I have a boxer and I use Esurance (the also cover my car). Though not a pit, still considered a bully breed. You might check them out.

A german shep mix qualifies?? Half of the dogs I meet at the dogpark are "shepard" mixes of some variety. SO stupid.

Do you have any family in the military (active or retired - can be grandparents, too)? I have my renter's insurance through USAA and I'm pretty sure they don't ask about pets.

If they don't ask, they may not cover them. So should something happen involving the dog, you're not covered.

Check with www.adoa.org for a listing of insurance companies who do not discriminate. A friend with bully breeds has had State Farm for over 20 years and she is happy with them. They are on that list.

If you go to the middle they have some broker names (out of state) that office insurance.

I have homeowners insurance and an extra umbrella policy. Maybe if you purchase an umbrella policy it may include something there about pets.
