I just got a call that these people want to come into my apartment and change all of our lightbulbs (free of charge, of course). They'll be in the neighborhood next week, and all that I need is a copy of my ConEd bill & Customer number.

Apparently they're under some contract with ConEd, and they do this "As a way of giving back to the community."

Has anyone else gotten a call about this? I'm really, really skeptical.

Sounds shady, I would ask them to leave the bulbs at the door. If they work for Con-Ed, why would they need your bill and customer number? They probably have that info. in a database somewhere if they're legit.

It's part of the Lighting Express portion of the program ConEd started a few yrs back to reduce peak demand on electricity grids. They may need your customer # to report back to ConEd that you were part of the territory they serviced with new CFL bulbs.

i would still call coned first to make sure they really sent these people. even if the program is legit, these folks might not be.
