Broken Car Alarm

So, it seems that once a day or so, my car alarm is going off for no reason. I'm sure I'm pissing off the neighbors.

I don't know if I have a short or what.

Anybody know a good place to get this checked out? South Slope/WT is easiest

Exactly the reason why I had mine removed. It wasn't worth fixing it.

I had my mechanic remove it, it went off all the time and was annoying as hell. Besides, have you ever seen someone call a cop after hearing a car alarm go off? LOL I don't think they stop anyone from staeling a car.

yah, I"m ok with removing it. my car is 10 years old with no break ins ever (hope I didn't jinx myself). I just imagine it's pissing people off and i want to shut it up

    where is your mechanic?

This was happening to my car about a year ago, I'm pretty sure it was due to the fact that my battery was dying. Ending up replacing the battery and it has never happened again.

puck, is there way to know if your battery is dying (before it actually dies)?

Are you having trouble with your lights, horn etc? you can take the car to a mechanic and they can hook the battery up to a meter to see what sort of power it is giving off.

Those alarms are a waste - they go off for no reason so no one pays attention to them

One way I knew was that my radio clock kept resetting to 12:00.

I'd actually offer a thief gas money to go with any cars he might steal around here with those darn alarms. I don't think they are an effective deterrent to theft. Wonder if there has ever been a study...

I can't imagine they are a theft deterrent. Though, you still get money off your insurance if you have one on your car. Perhaps they are more effective in less urban areas where they don't go off constantly? maybe people pay more attention to them then?

It's not as bad as it was 20-25 years ago. For a while, it seemed like car alarms were constant background noise.
