Best internet provider in Park Slope?

hi, I'm just about to move to park slope, can anyone name the best company for fast/reliable internet in central park slope? :roll:

nope.

Options are limited and it seems like you'll find very few happy customers with any. TWC is probably your main option if you're renting. There might be a verizon dsl option or maybe direct tv satellite (but I wouldn't install that unless I planned to be in one spot a long time).

If you're new here, the thing to know is that the main cable companies (Time Warner and Cablevision) do not compete. You get one or the other depending on where you live, so you don't have a choice there.

My TWC internet is slow at times, but my main beef with them is with my cable box for the tv (many many issues) and their customer service in general.

ParkSloperite, this question is posted every month it seems. Do a search, you'll find you only Time Warner for most of the slope. Roadrunner uses TW lines, so it's the same thing.

Again, North Slope here, using Verizon DSL on my phone line. Works fine. Not the fastest, but tolerable. $19.99 on your phone bill. When I used TWC several years ago, it was like $50. So Verizon works, much cheaper. I do not have cable TV, incidentally.

I've been quite satisfied with TWC's RoadRunner service. The one time I had a problem with intermittent slowdowns, they sent a tech who spent half a day in my house and in my back yard, and totally fixed the problem.

It has otherwise worked pretty flawlessly.

I have the internet and phone land line through verizon and I pay $80 a month without any long distance phone calls.

My neighbors get cable TV through time warner cable and it breaks so often (about once a month for a few days) that they usually don't have to pay their bill.

"without any long distance calls" - you mean there is no charge for long distance in the U.S, right? I believe Verizon is offering Internet & phone for $69.99 at this time, I got something in the mail to that effect. Sometimes they offer a few bucks cheaper if you order online, which we did when we moved to the Slope 3 years ago. We ordered DSL online, that is, after already ordering phone service.

Verizon DSL + Freedom Essentials, which includes all calling, both local and long distance, call waiting, caller ID, and voice mail. with tax it comes to around $80

I just ordered for my mother in law and they are giving a netbook for $100 + shipping with the DSL order.

I'm pretty happy with Verizon DSL. Except for the price.

There isn't. But the best of a bad lot happens to be Time Warner.
If there's any problem, I gripe about it in a formal email sent to the right people, and they'll be all over it. Always mention "other methods of gaining internet or tv access" or "Verizon FiOS" and it'll get their attention.

In 3 years, we have never sent an e-mail, letter or placed a phone call to Verizon re: DSL. It just seems to work, & it's cheaper than cable Internet.

if you have business-critical needs (like, if your internet goes out means you immediately start to lose income) I can't speak highly enough of speakeasy.net. I've used them for years and I might have had a total of 5 or 6 hours of outtage per YEAR, if that.

it's not cheap, though. prices start at $50/month.

I don't really like Time Warner's cable tv content or the way they handle intellectual property enforcement, but I get Internet service from them because their connection is solid and reliable.
