You should contact Yvonne Harris at 718-774-5553. She's the manager of the Bergen Street garden bet. Nostrand and NY. They could probably use some compost over there.

I want to know how I can compost in my apt (or ideally, my fire escape). The portable, enclosed composting containers seem so huge! Way too big for my needs.

you can set up a worm-posting system (faster than worm-less) in one of those big tupperware file boxes. if you can't find info online, i'd call the bbg.

Wow- that's cute! But it seems that it's a preliminary compost holder from kitchen to your actual compost bin "in the yard." Ha! No yard for me! I'm already gardening on my fire escape, which isn't exactly legal- I think putting a big tupperware composting system may put me over the edge with the law.

I was thinking that too -- I'm in the Crown Heights CSA and it seems I am always left with the ends of veggies and whatnot that just get thrown away. Maybe there's something they could put together for people to bring them compost in on pick-up days (whether a member or not) and then it could be taken somewhere that needs it. I certainly don't. I had been gardening on my fire escape...but when all my flowers got EATEN by a rodent, I got too grossed out and stopped.

if the crown heights CSA is looking for advice on this, they could try talking to the PH CSA (out of PS 9). they have a deal in place with the PH Community Farm (comm garden on st marks, btwn underhill and vandy).

if a closer garden isn't willing to do it, the PHCF might -- pm me and i can put you in touch with relevant parties at PHCF.
