Would Brooklyn sports fans be loyal to a Jersey team?

I have other concerns about the stadium deal but I have to admit, the first time I heard this my reaction was "No way". No way Brooklynites will welcome a Jersey team. I love me some Cyclones and I'm a Mets fan, but I can't see people getting into the Nets thing.

yeah i tend to agree - people support the local team, ordinarily. that the jets are coming from NJ is moot, IMO.

Correct me if I am wrong ...

    1. It's the NETS (basketball), not the JETS (football) that are presumably coming to Brooklyn, again, I may be wrong ...

    2. The JETS were headed to the West Side, but, forsooth, are now hog-tied and bound to Dante's infernal circle of football hell, NJ (truth in Advertising, je suis une Gal de Nouvelle Jersey - not "Jersey" - NEW Jersey -- do we say YORK, or HAMPSHIRE ???? Of course not).

I know a few people who actually LEAVE NYC to go to Jersey for a NETS game. They are psyched that its going to be closer AND cheaper to get there.

I'm not sure what your point is? Not saying that in a snotty way but I'm really not sure. I said Nets in the original post and people just say "Jersey", there isn't really anything incorrect about it.

Oh, I was joking, really, I was.

I realize now that YOU didn't say Jets, but someone else did. And I certainly do not claim to be an expert on these matters. In fact, a friend just now told me that Brooklyn was also being considered as an alternative for the Jets if the West Side deal didn't work out. Right, wrong? I'm not sure. I guess I need to be more careful when I respond ...

My "New" Jersey thing is just a little pet peeve I have. Having grown up in New Jersey and knowing that it's far more than just that smelly industrial corridor that people typically associate with "Jersey" I am a little protective of my former home state and the blasting that it takes. That's it. No offense meant AT ALL.

    Apologies all around ...

Brooklyn fans will be very loyal to the Nets once they are in the borough of kings. I have friends who are really excited to have a home town team and I think they will get a lot of Brooklyn-based season ticket buyers. Go Brooklyn Nets!

I like the Nets being a Jersey team.
I like liking them because they are in NJ and that is one of the only things jersey has.
I don't want another sports team in NYC.

I have a few things to say about The Brooklyn Nets Presented By Jackson Hewitt. I'm a bit surprised by the comments suggesting that Brooklynites will not be interested in attending a The Brooklyn Nets Presented By Jackson Hewitt game in the neighborhood. I, for one, look forward to the day when I can go to a The Brooklyn Nets Presented By Jackson Hewitt game in a stadium that Frank Gehry sold his name to. I plan to be a season ticket holder for The Brooklyn Nets Presented By Jackson Hewitt as soon as the tickets are available. Who's with me?

What about the Devils, Giants and Jets? The Jets and Giants may be called NY, but they are really Jersey teams. Not that I really care as a non sports fan, but in the interest of annoyingly nitpicky attention to detail...
