(this post is written in jest ...I like the parade and eat the yummy bbq every year)

As a part of a multi-year payback to the '90s US invasion of Panama (which involved blasting bad rock music at their leader until he surrendered), the Panamanians have again surrounded and then invaded Mount Prospect Park.

Food: Yummy.
Outfits: Fantastic.
Crowd: Happy, reasonably sober.
Music: horn and drum based.

That's all for now, enjoy your Saturday.

What food did you get, how long does it last?
Can I bring my ghetto blaster and Metalica CDs?

Update: this is a two day event. The event is less crowded than I remember it last year (but it is early, and day one of the event). As of 3 pm, no bands on stage yet, so everyone is laid back and eating. No dancing yet.

    The police looked bored.

I had fried fish plate (includes rice and peas and salad); $7. I ate the fish before I took its picture.

The women in the huge dresses that were part of "parade" (aka "invasion force") are not at the event (or, perhaps they took off their huge dresses to be comfortable and incognito).

Whynot did this start on Washington? My sometimes drunk friend who may have been doing the walk of shame heard live music.

    Again?

(I meant that she heard live music, again since Thursday's Purple Rain, of course.)

If the aforementioned occasionally inebriated friend was in the area of Washington Ave between EP and Empire, she could have heard the parade. Especially if the music was horn and drum based.

...barring this, she may have heard the sound of live music simply as a result of intoxication.

    Goodbye, Panama!

This is the final event for this group at Mount Prospect Park.

One of the NYPD community affairs officers confirmed
what we'd heard yesterday. The Parks Department
has refused to renew the permit because the event
has become too large for the space.

    Apparently, it "damages the infrastructure"
of the park and they don't have funding
    to repair the after-effects.

Adios! McNair park is always left trashed afterwards. I don't get how those responsible for hosting these events aren't responsible for cleaning up.

The NYPD did the worst job I've ever seen managing traffic for this event.

The most egregious example was that EP was closed at Franklin, but they still allowed westbound traffic to approach it, rather than diverting them at an upstream intersection.

This resulted in the entire block between Franklin and Classon in being filled with cars simultaneously making haphazard U-turns.

It was really a sight to behold -- like some sort of post-modern automotive dance.

I think having in McNair makes more sense than Mt. Prospect.

...this way, the NYPD does not have to keep them on the sidewalk as they walk along Eastern Parkway.
