spinoff: fish at Union Market?

Union Market has good fish? I need a good fish place because I am disgusted with the 2 on 7th Avenue-ugh! I used to like the people on 7th Avenue between 3rd & 4th (I always found the other place disguesting!)-but, have not been at all happy with them lately. And, I don't want to drive down to Court Street every time I want fish ( a couple of times per week). Do they have a decent selection? And, is their fish brought in every day from the fish markets or is it laying around in the freezer day in and day out?

Oh-what about that new place further down on 5th Avenue-Fresh Fields-are they any good?

I may be wrong, but I don't think Fresh Fields has fish. I went in once - they are wicked pricey and have a very small selection of fancy goods.

There's another new deli in that stretch, with a shockingly well merchandised selection of chips and candy and deli stuff. Across 5th Ave from Lobo. I like them.

Don't know anything about the Union Market's particular purveying habits, but everything I've bought there has been really good and fresh. Not a huge selection, but enough to find dinner.
    : )
And I can't stand the smell of the 7th Ave places!

when I'm getting serious about fish (or big dinner party) it's Chinatown all the way. Sunset Park, or Canal St.
Union Market is much more like Gourmet Garage, but with a smaller selection.

    my final thought on fish...
    :D
the cod sandwich at Mary's Fish Camp is phenomenal. and huge.
perfect to split with a salad.
I didn't say it was cheap, cause it's not. It's good good fish.

Fifth Ave on a corner...across from Carecibo.
And it's not *that* Fresh Fields, if you're thinking of a suburban grocery store that was like Whole Foods . . .

the GAP Greenmarket fish is the best
they should be back by April. but that's Sat am only.
They are SO nice -- they'll hold your purchases for you while you run your dog (or yourself.)
It's a long line and they start to run out of stuff if you go after dog hours, so that's really really great.

I think Union Market is great for fish. The manager of that counter, short Hispanic guy with braids, is LOVELY.

At the risk of setting of the inevitable explosion of hate comments, FreshDirect has excellent fish.

Yes, they do. But why would that bother anybody on here and make them post hate comments?
