there's a very long string about this on brownstoner today as well. Why the "Park Slope Mommy" thing is still interesting to anyone is beyond me.

She is an overrated hack. First she had a boring sex column and now that she is married with a family she wants to prove how cool and relevant she still is. Do we really need to hear about fictional characters working their Coop shift? I call bullshit.

I don't want to hear about real people working their coop shift. When friends start to talk about it, I glaze over and think about eating processed mac n' cheese.

this woman had some sort of column? There are entirely too many "and"s and commas in that excerpt. It hurt my head.

Or maybe she's just trying to keep the mortgage paid. Now let's talk about what you do for a living.

    1) Start with everyday judgmental blog babblings about life in the big city.

    2) Convert to novel (or dare I say, not so novel, at this point) format.

    3) Sprinkle liberally with references to Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahniks, the fabulous folks that wear them, and those other regrettable folks who never will.

    4) Profit!

But hey, if it sells, don't hate the auteur. Hate the game.

For once Danny and I agree. If she can make money on this, it's not her fault.

    Fault those that buy it.

PS - who's hosting the first HBO series watching party, if it's produced and aired? (hah, yeah, you know we'll all watch it)

Oh, gee, some more navel-gazing, narcissistic Mary Sue chick-lit, wallowing in the most misogynist Eisenhower-era cliches about female behavior -- shallow status-seeking, obsession with looks and fashion, jealousy, backstabbing?

And now it's set in my very own neighborhood?

Also, I'm not sure I get the idea that what an author writes is "not their fault." Like... she was forced to put her name on something she didn't write? Or... she was held prisoner and had to write for her life? Kinda like in "Misery"?

OMG, how awful! I hadn't realized! Now I feel bad for criticizing her. :(

I live here... Christ, I bang some of those women... and I have no desire to watch a show, a book, or a blog dedicated to some lowest common denominator view of what life is like. I wouldn't piss on an autographed manuscript of the pilot episode of that crap (currently valued at $325 on eBay by by the way) if it were on fire.

It's horseshit. It's dribble. It certainly isn't real.

Wow, she's married with a family? I remember reading her column, like, 3 years ago, and she was such a pathetic single.

The one line I remember from her column was that she went on a first date with a guy and they were just getting to the restaurant. Her date opened the door and said something like, "I haven't had sex in 6 weeks and I'm horny as hell." She went into the restaurant with him. 'Nuff said.

I hate Gawker and Sarah Jessica Parker. Why do all those trashy people have to try to ruin a nice neighborhood like Park Slope with their sleaze?

    1. write "cute" sex column
    2. whine about how awful it is
    3. get rich
    4. get married and become everything you hated
    5. whine about how awful it is
    6. get richer
    7. repeat

 i didn't realize i copied the above poster--as i rushed to comment before reading thread.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one offended by this. I've known the writer since her days at NYP and wish she had stopped there. Unfortunately, there are people out there who encourage this type of drivel.
