After some recent stupidities on here, i just couldnt help from wondering...
who the heck are all these people ???
because, well, my actual neighbors dont seem like such idiots.
guess what ?
apparently nearly 30% of brooklynian visits arent from folks in the country.

Brooklynian.com users come from these countries:
70.2% United States
12.7% Pakistan
9.1% India
1.9% Indonesia
1.4% Romania
1.0% Philippines
0.8% Israel
2.8% OTHER

Are they really so bored in SE ASIA that they cant even find a worthwhile thread war of their own ?

also found it interesting that
"college educated, single, childless, women between 25-34,
are 'over-represented' "

shocking stuff huh ?

As a member of the mod team constantly scanning for spam posts and tracking IPs by geolocation, I can tell you that we get a ton of spam coming in via IPs from the following countries:

    12.7% Pakistan
    9.1% India
    1.9% Indonesia
    1.0% Philippines

Also huge amounts of traffic : Russia and China (think RBN and other spammer/attacker riffraff) and South Korea.

Granted, a certain percentage of these may merely be using an anonymizer like TOR ( http://www.torproject.org ) that sets up a proxy server to use IP addresses from a pool of global IP addresses irrespective of where the user actually sits (even if just down the street at Sit and Wonder or some other hotspot, local or not).

But seeing these comes as absolutely no surprise to anyone involved in the constant battle to keep spam off the site.

Not to be a dick... but perhaps i'll save you some embarrassment later. India and Pakistan are NOT south east asia. South Asia, Central Asia... perhaps even the "Subcontinent" (though I don't think that includes all of Pakistan)

Southeast Asia is that chunk of Asia between China and Australia -- mainland and the swath of islands.

I think all off those countries should be added to the Axis of Evil and destroyed.

    thanks for satiating my curiosity.
I was a bit concerned America had become so lazy ,
that we were outsourcing our trolls.

this information and tyburs reply prove otherwise.

stats that come from Alexa are pretty dodgy for various reasons. See:
    http://norvig.com/logs-alexa.html
The sitemeter bug (the little multi-colored box at the bottom left of each page here) and Google Analytics (embedded in the page, you don't see it counting you) provide much more accurate info on the visitors here.

But yes, my own experience in admin'ing various sites would say it's largely spammers attempting to find any forum at all to post their crap to. Between that and the constant hacking attempts (most of them automated scripts that just scan through blocks of IP addresses), it's a jungle out there.
