I want to know too. I had no idea how great it would be.

Since it's supposed to last the length of the project on the F line tracks (did it even start yet?), knowing the MTA, it will be around for 5 years or so. Just like when they were working on the Manhattan Bridge tracks.

The work is scheduled to end in 2013. Which will hopefully turn into a lot longer. There is an option for to make it permanent. I read some other articles that said they want to so let's hope it happens somehow.
Assemblyman Joe Lentol is pleased to announce the extension of the G subway line to the Church Avenue F station due to the reconstruction of the Culver Viaduct. “This is great news for all who depend on the G train,” Lentol said. “At the same time, there is still a cacophony of issues concerning the G train that have yet to be broached by the MTA.” This announced extension will begin on July 5th of this year and last until 2013 with an option to make the extension permanent.

    Info all found here: http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/32/20/32_20_mm_g_spot.html

With the extension, I love that you can bypass the A if going back and forth between the F and the G.

they should be working on the g line in queens. and extend that sucker all the way to Bronx and SI. this way nyc would be connected not via Manhattan.

You and other should take the issue to your local Community Board. Ask that they include the extension as part of the district needs. Also, work with Assemblyman Joe Lentol office - he should be able to advocate for keeping the extension permanent.

I think this is a done deal, actually.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the thread in its entirety. But, yeah, good news about the G, and if it can ever make it back to Queens Plaza, that would be a good thing.
