most of the time i get tickets from meter maids, some times is just and some times its not. the times its not is very outrages.

rarely cops do the ticket thing and a few times that they did i got screwed by them royally and it wasn't just and last time i felt threaten by one.

not going to get into this whole thing. it was very unjust what that cop did.

This is a real exchange I saw, on 5th Ave and 2nd St:

Big hulking man, walking quickly: Why ya gotta do that for?!?
Petite meter maid: Well, if you put more than one quarter in the meter...
Big hulking man: Why ya gotta walk around giving people tickets for!? Don't ya know it's a hard life out here?

The cops don't have to do anything to be bashed.

Usually it's their inaction that gets them bashed.

Now if they would just start doing their job 24/7 and not deciding when and where thatw ant to enforce a certain law, them maybe they wouldn't get bashed and will earn the respect of many people who do bash them.

As it is, they do as little as possible trying to get to their pension.

I don't want a fascist state, but to just uphold the laws that were written. These laws were written for a reason, the police took an oath to uphold them time to get to work and stop eating donuts.

    KWAC - indirectly.

Might have been a "failure to enforce odor ordinance" thing.

    Oh, the inhumanity.

I wouldn't let a fat-ass cop close enough to me to do so.

No, I'm very perceptive. It seems I can see all the crap going on that cops can't. I wonder why that is? Maybe because I actually give a shit?

Really, the police should also obey the laws they are supposedly hired to enforce, but even that is a stretch.

That's right KWAC, it's called Quality of Life crimes. Of course, when you live on Long Island or New Jersey do you really care about the quality of life of NYC?

    Doubtful.

Meredith - on the thread about cycling the wrong way in Prospect Park, you adocate a free for all at certain times of day, despite the clearly stated laws. What happened to 24/7 enforcement?

We all want selective enforcement. For example, leave me alone for public intoxication (as long as I'm not endangering anyone) and jaywalking. However, how dare cops not enforce the law when it comes to people littering and honking their horns unnecessarily (seriously, can't cops shoot honkers first and ask questions later)?

Sorry, but the enforcement, or lack thereof, of laws will never make everyone happy.

Maybe it was a joke. Typical cop reply, no sense of humor.

For the record, I'm not a cop. (I worked with them 5+ years ago and met some fine, upstanding people, and some whose behavior was appalling.) While I'm not a cop, i do see the irony in people like you who paint cops with such a broad brush. Cops are often bashed for making generalizations about the citizens of the communities in which they work, yet many of those same critics are guilty of making generalizations about cops. You stereotype cops as donut eaters and suggest that those who live outside of the city are less capable or compassionate and see nothing wrong with making such broad generalizations. If someone were to stereotype an ethnic group, or any other minority based on the action of some of its members you would not stand for it. If a particular cop behaves in an unprofessional manner, he/she deserves to be bashed, but it's ridiculous to suggest that it reflects on the other 30,000 cops in the city.
