Now, before I'm berated for not picking up the yellow pages, I should say that it's difficult to know which places are likely to leave your fingers and toes with unspeakable infections and which ones are not, so advice from experienced salon goers is greatly appreciated.

I like the new place on 7th in south slope - 13th/14th I think. They really did a nice job with the place-- pretty tiled floors and granite topped stations.

I am a fan of Dashing Diva since they acknowledge the cleanliness issue. They do not have whirlpool foot baths which collect all kinds of nasty things in their filters.

i agree with maggiepc even though i would rather support a local than a chain - but i know they are clean(er).

While it is a chain- it's owned by a local family based on LI. I went to his house once as part of a focus group. It was nice, but it was a McMansion.

The new place on 7th around 8th St. is unfortunately not great. While new and clean, their work is slapdash. The place referenced above further south on 7th is much better.
