Renters Insurance?

Can anyone recommend a really good renters insurance company? We need to insure bikes, jewelry, and just the stuff in our house. I want to make sure it's a company that pays out claims fairly easy and is not to expensive. Any feedback would be great!

I've used Allstate for years and it covers everything I have in my apartment, in my car and also in my little upstate bungalow all for under $250/ year. The coverage is decent. You might check other insurance companies like Liberty Mutual or the Hartford and see if they got better coverage and prices. . .

Allstate was the cheapest but check the coverage. Any decent agent will be able to walk you through it.

When you are checking the coverage specifically ask if jewelry is covered or is there a lump sum dollar amount (usually ridiculously low). If you have something expensive (like an engagement ring) you may have to get a rider (need an appraisal or purchase receipt) for an additional premium.

I have Assurant for renters insurance.

They have good rates and pay out in about 2 - 3 months. They can give you up to $1000 on a debit card if you are in need of it (and that will come out of your total payout)

I just went through it 6 months ago with a fire in my building. For fairly new items, they will devalue everything 5% across the board. So make sure you say things are a bit more expensive The adjuster that came to my apartment was just a kid and didnt even care about receipts. Didnt even care about the pictures I had taken. Just asked me how much it cost.

The turn around time for them is pretty quick once the adjuster submits the info. The adjusters can take a long time depending on who you get.
Also, depending on the contract you get, you will get up to $6000 of displacement payment. Lets say you can live in your place for a while and the temp place you find is more expensive.

ex: you apt = $2000 a month.
temp apt = $2500 a month.
They will pay you the $500 difference. (so live it up if you can )

As for jewlery, I have a different company for my fiancee's engagement ring since it costs more than everything I own lol

I have allstate, and I also had riders for expensive stuff.

Works very well.

Subject: Finding the Right Rental Insurance Policy

You should shop around and compare policies with multiple insurance providers. Although there are numerous rental insurance companies that offer coverage for expensive jewelery, you'll often times have to place a rider on the policy for wedding rings and the like.

We have allstate. they're pretty cool, at least about the renewing and the taking of our money side of things. I've never filed a claim, so who really knows.

I spent some time on the web looking and ended up with Liberty Mutual. It was pretty painless to set up and I'm no expert but the price seems good.
