Hi everyone. I have been looking for apartments in the crown heights and lefferts garden area for btween 1000 and 1100 a month. I have seen quite a few lisitngs for apartments in this price range but I am asking for disaster by renting an apartment with such low rent.?

Depends on the size of the apartment and location. I would be a little skepticle if it's larger than a studio or 1 bedroom in that price range.

Don't look in my building and you should be straight. I wish I'd done several drop bys to see what type of people lived in my building. Too many of the tenants are disgusting.

Seriously, you can find nice apartments in the area in that price range for a 1 bedroom. I was told that if they're that cheap it's usually a rent stabilized building, which is a good and a bad thing. Good because you have long time tenants, bad because there is the possibility of minimal upkeep.

Carnivore has lived in the area for years and knows a great deal, an assumption I'm making based on previous posts and the great info provided by him/her (not sure of Carnivore's gender).

we got the place because someone was renting and he needed to get out of NYC fast - we were allowed to take it at his rent rate if we moved in without them doing major work (no painting, etc) but just cleaning it. i saw it posted on craigslist, called, viewed it, and signed a lease within 12 hours.

I know people who live in decent apartments for that price and less with handy men in the buildings, but they're in Astoria, Queens.

I have a 1 bedroom for $1100.. Love it! I don't want to put my address on here, though... but, yes, it's possible to live near the park for that price.
