Subject: Hotels, motels and B & B's

I've got some family coming in for a few days and unfortunately don't have enough room in my apt to house everyone. I'm looking for a nice place to put them for the weekend in or around the Slope area. Hotel Le Bleu is all booked up, but maybe a nice Bed and Breakfast will do if anyone knows of anything. I'd like to not put them in a Days Inn and other hotels of the sort. Any ideas?

a B&B would be nicer, and there are several around, but the Holiday Inn Express on Union is not too bad

I had this situation this week. I found the Holiday Inn Express way too expensive, especially on the weekend. Since I had very short notice I had to call about 15 different B&Bs before I found one available (Stratford Manor on 10th St., which is nice). Most of the B&Bs in the general vicinity, even out in Kensington, look decent. It's just a matter of calling around & being patient.

The B&B on PPW (at around 5th/6th) is really nice - I've seen inside a few of the rooms when friends have stayed there. But it's pricey, probably at least $250 and up to $300/night for a room. I think the Holiday Inn on Union is fine and you can get it for as low as $125/night if you book it through Priceline.

As for other B&Bs - I'd check out very carefully before booking. Some are probably fine but others are definitely marginal situations.

The guest house in the brownstone on Carlton between Park and Prospect (the Garden Green) is lovely. I know I've read countless stories as to bizzare run-ins with the couple that runs it, but I had my parents stay there this summer and they did not have an issue at all and managed to build a lovely rapport with them. If your folks aren't prone to personality clashes with others, the location can't be beat and the prices are very reasonable.
