brown water from all showers and faucets

This morning I got in the shower and got brown water coming out of the shower. I checked all the other showers and faucets in the house and its all brown. Even the water from the basement raucet.

Its only brown if i run the cold water........

does anyone have the same problem? im on the phone now with 311 and there appears to be a very long wait.

I ran the water for about 10 minutes and the color did not change. :roll:

I had the problem a few times. I figured my pipes were old so I didn't think much of it

Brown water occurs when the Fire Dept has to connect to the hydrants somewhere in your community! The fire engine pumps siphon water out of the line with lots of force. this causes the sediments and rust to stir up from the bottom of the water pipe and it takes a while for it to drop back down.
It is quite harmless in spite of its appearance. Just have to wait a while for it to go away.
