OLIVE VINE IN SOUTH SLOPE CLOSED! :(

I can't believe this. All of the places that have closed in the slope are places I never shopped/ate at. Lily, Lola, all of the overpriced boutiques--I was never sad to see them go. But Olive Vine?!!
Now I really am freaking out about our economy.

So that's where that fancy new restaurant on the 'corner of 15th' is going.... so perhaps not so much a result of bad economy, but rather the further gentrification of the South Slope.

    F. F F F F F F F F F F F F!

I loved Olive Vine. Delicious, casual, and priced for value. I already hate the new place. One less place to eat in the neighborhood.

Just walked by and all the tables and chairs are piled up on each other. Unless the floor is getting a good cleaning, it does indeed look like it's closed : - (

I can't believe it stayed in business this long. They had terrible falafel from what I remember - don't know if had other stuff that was good.

I'd suggest those who are sad about this try Mr. Falafel on 7th ave. He rocks like an Egyptian.

I went 2 or 3 times over the years and was never impressed. First, it's not my favorite type of food, so it would have to be super special for me to be impressed. Second, anything I ate seemed just average to me.

I did like the BYOB element. I wish more places let you do that.

Try Fatoosh on 5th Ave and 9th, They wave whole wheat pitas and great sandwich wraps. Never tried their lentil soup though. It looks good.

I don't think you are thinking of the right place, because Olive Vine was around for many years

Oh no! Loved the sundried-tomato and lahambajin pizzas. Guess I'll have to get delivery from the North Slope location now...

does anyone know the story behind what happened here? I know there's a sign on the door but i've yet to find the time to walk down there.

i know the story, but have mixed feelings about publicizing it, as i have since met the new owners. ok, ok, i will get off my high horse and try the new place. it's not the "gentrification" issue, as that word don't work these days. the new owners have experience, and although i say this with gritted teeth, i wish them well. any new shop in our neighborhood means safer streeets, better lighting, jobs for locals, and in general, improves our community. i just hope it's not crazy expensive.

i heard the new owner came in and offered a huge amount (i don't want to say how huge) to the guy at olive vine and he accepted.

    could just be a rumor.

this is truly a tragedy for south slopers. i used to order from that place every night, and became eye-contact-and-smile buddies with one of the delivery guy, brando. i used to give him cookies if i happened to have just baked them! (which was often) brando, in case you're wondering, is still employed as a delivery guy at the lincoln st. O.V. he's the short, darker-skinned dude who wears his hair brushed away from his face and is super-shy and always looks somehow apologetic even as he delivers your delectable, affordably priced food at super-sonic speed.

Aww, I miss that guy. He always came in like 6 minutes, so I always tipped him very well. The other O.V. technically delivers to me, but it's so far that I feel kind of bad ordering from there. Plus, the food would be cold. I guess I'm still in denial that the South Slope one is closed. Life just isn't the same without it.

Take the walk to Olive Vine on Lincoln / St. Johns. It's worth it.
