Verizon Reception in Park Slope

I've been a Verizon wireless subscriber for almost 10 years and never had cell phone problems in Brooklyn. Suddenly I barely have reception inside my building and can't figure out if it's the phone or Verizon.

About a week ago, the reception bars on my phone started shrinking whenever I stepped away from the window. Now my phone frequently drops calls and doesn't ring unless I'm standing in the "right" spots in my apartment. Instead of phone calls, I just get static-y voice mail messages while at home. Have any other subscribers in the area had problems recently?

I have a similar issue in my apartment with Verizon. Works great everywhere else. Drops calls unless I'm near the window at home though.

    :(

i had verizon and lived in a basement in park slope. if it worked perfectly there i dont think you should have a problem. do what jim suggested or try updating your phone. do you have a dinosaur phone?

I just tried Jim's suggestion, but nothing happened and then the phone wouldn't let me make outgoing calls because there was a "Call in Progress." I just took the battery out and restarted it. It's a Blackberry Storm, about 7 months old, but I've had no problems until recently. Still, I have to assume it's the phone since no one else seems to be having these sudden reception problems.

*228 option 2 is to update your phones list of cell towers it can use. Option 1 you only use 1 time when you hook the phone up

About 3 weeks ago my verizon phone stopped receiving calls in Red Hook, where I live. I'll try the *228 option 2 route, but it is weird that it just started after 2 years of decent service and 6 months with the same phone.

Jim, I never thanked you for fixing my phone. It's been working fine ever since I punched in the numbers like you told me. Thanks so much!
