Falling Down Building on 2nd St and 7th Ave

The building that used to have the bar in it that has scaffolding around it? Yeah, that one.

There's a sign posted on it saying, "For Info, Call 888-286-6043"

I called and said I was calling about the house, and the woman said, "Great, I'll take your number and have someone get back to you." When I asked who I was calling, she said, "I don't know, actually."

Never received a call back. If anyone else is bored enough to call and gets a response, I'd love to know what they say.

Mrs. nash owns that building (she also owns the falling apart brownstone on 2nd street across from 321), what do you want people to find out when they call?

I'm just curious why the sign's there at all, I guess. Seems very random.

It's sad, poor building. My guess: the scaffolding (like the one in carroll gardens) falls down, the buildings structure goes into such disrepair that it eventually get the dreaded X
Meaning that it's condemned and then starbucks/or a real estate buys it out, levels it, builds something ugly.

I don't understand how a building like this is allowed to remain in such a sorry state of disrepair for so long. It is on a major commercial thoroughfare. Isn't it high time the city do something?

I don't know how the City allows a scaffolding to stay up that long, I'm pretty sure there are regulations about that.

If you look at the city register (Block 1076 Lot 1) you can see that there have been some court actions as recently as last year related to liens and stuff like that. I don't have the patience to read it all through, but you can try this link if you're interested:

In a similar vein, what about that boarded up town house on Garfield Place between 6th & 7th Aves? How can that be allowed to just rot like that? Shouldn't the city condemn it as a hazard or something? It looks like it's sinking into the earth.

While we're at it, there is a boarded-up brownstone on Third Street, just below 7th Avenue.

What about the two brownstones on 9th and 8th that have been abandoned for years? Every six months people go in there to do some sort of construction work, as if they're renovating it, but then disappear. These are at a minimum million dollar lots.

I would love to organize a campaign to get this building condemned or to get the owners to take responsibility for the safety of people in this neighborhood. I know for a fact that the scaffolding has deteriorated since it was put up and the whole situation is a ticking time bomb.

The appearance of blight is a secondary issue as far as I'm concerned, but I can see from this thread and Brownstoner's (linked to above) that lots of people are up in arms over this negligent owner but no one has acted. For me the issue is that I have no fucking clue how to even begin to make noise about this in a meaningful way that will effect some change.

Short of knocking on Chuck Schumer's door, does anyone know who to turn to? Thanks.

There's been some activity going on at this place...signs are moved, door was open the other day on the 7th Ave. side...anyone know what's going on?

Finally. Tired of that eyesore. There should be a limit to how long a building can stay like this. How about the one around the corner from Barrio. Another eyesore.

I live across the street from those two bldgs. There's been some action in one of them over the last few months. There's construction going on in the interior but hard to say if they're doing anything of any substance. It AMAZES me that those two bldgs are vacant on 9th street, a block from the park. Bananas

Can someone remove that ladder on the brownstone across from C-Town on 9th? I think it's been there for 1 year now.
