Subject: children's books- Pre-k

Please excuse my ignorance. I need to purchase a bunch of books for pre-k and while I think the bookstore closed, I cannot remember. So, other than BnN, where can I buy books for pre-k?

Lulus has some things as well. They don't have a huge selection, but what they have is good.

If the local bookstores do not have them:

Scholastic on Spring and/or Broadway will offer you a discount with your teaching ID.
Borders in lower Manhattan also offers discounts to teachers.

Also there is a place in CH that opened up not too long ago and I cannot remember the name of them. There was a post about it on the CH Board

Sadly I don't have a teaching license so no discounts for me.

Congregation Beth Elohim is having a book fair. I am sure you can find a lot of books for Pre-K there.

do you perhaps mean Unnameable Books, in PH? it's on vandy at st marks, and it's wonderful, but the children's section is pretty small.

No there was a children's store/bookstore that opened in CH about a year ago. I think they posted about the opening in the CH Board but I cant find it on a search.

Are you only thinking Brooklyn? I believe the Strand on B'way & 12th has a pretty sizable selection for all age groups.

Narobi's Knapsack? It has a good gift selection if that's what you're looking for.

As an elementary school teacher, I recommend The Strand for sure. Not sure what sorts of books you're looking for. I use Scholastic's school book sales for my needs -- if you are getting a gift, then I think the other suggestions are good, but if you are looking for a lot of books, look for a daycare/preK that uses book sales and go through them for great discounts.

How about Greenlight Bookstore, 686 Fulton Street?

They just opened a week or two ago, and it's gorgeous! Its kids selection isn't enormous like B&N, but you should be able to find some books for pre-K kids.

Went to Community Bookstore this afternoon. Whereas the streets were hopping, it was dark and silent inside. I wasn't really sure where to find what I needed, but seem to be invisible as I made it to the back of the store looking perplexed without one of the what I found out later were 3 people working there speaking to me. I could have used help. As it was, while I liked some of their books, they didn't really have what I was looking for- clear, big pictures in simple format with large print that I can adapt for children with varying degrees of vision. I was pretty pissed they were more interested in making popcorn than helping me, but in truth, I didn't ask for help either.
I bought three mass production books and went to Barnes and Noble.
I approached it differently and asked the designated worker for what I wanted. She quickly located four books that perfectly suited my requests of type size, picture type and content. I got two of each.
