Good bars

The wife and I moved into the neighborhood recently (40's near 5th Ave) and I was wondering if there are any good dive bars in the 'hood. I figure there's probably something closer to Bay Ridge; we've noticed the Tiki bar but it gets constantly trashed here so we've avoided it thus far.

It's not a bar per se, but Maria's on 5th and 39th has a wonderful happy hour and serves drinks that are pretty strong! Just make sure to tell the bartender not to put sugar in your mixed drinks. There is a bar area where people sit all night, without having to buy food.
