you have to narrow it down. What part of the Slope? What services are you looking for?

The Chase on 5th avenue (around 13th street) is great and the customer service people in there are really friendly.

I've been with Bank of America for 10+ years and though the branch on 11th? street is just 'alright' (I've had great service from the service reps -the ones with the offices, but the tellers kinda annoy me)

I've always been happy with them in all other locations though. Plus there's so many ATM's everywhere in PS and Manhattan. One on Union, one on Flatbush, the main branch and everywhere in Midtown Manhattan where I used to work.

There's a branch on 7th and 6th street? That's new to me. When did this happen, you're talking full service?

Go with M&T. They're solvent, very conservative in terms of lending and investments, and the branch manager Erol McGlashin (sp?) is willing and very able to work with you, as well as upfront about what goes on. They're on 8th Ave and Flatbush,

over the summer or before? it's in the old d'agostino building.

seriously though - awful, awful customer service

I have had only positive experiences with Astoria Federal Saving. The tellers and the managers all treat me well.

They don't have ATMs everywhere but I have never been charged a cent to have a checking account and get cash at their ATM

I've noticed most conservative and small banks are like that. M&T, Astoria, Maspeth and so on, you don't see too many branches. M&T is probably the most widespread, so to speak.

In the final analysis you're not going to find much difference among any of the behemoths. Pick a bank that has lots of little branches and ATMS because when you withdraw money you'll want to go to your bank's ATMs so you don't pay service charges.

astoria federal on 7th ave is THE worst. have you ever been in line in that place awhen they only have 2-tellers, tops? the wait is endless. once, i got so frustrated, i even tried calling the manager, hoping that maybe he'd send somebody out to help-out. and they hung-up on me.

avoid this place, whatever you do.

Sorry to hear that, I have been banking there for years now and while the wait has been long-ish at times, I always get an apology for it and whenever I have had to speak to a manager or a customer service person, have always been helped professionally. I have on the other hand had endless waits at various Chase branches across Brooklyn and have never been able to get help from anyone. But, different experiences for everyone.

I have used Citibank for years - my first account with them was opened at the branch on 7th and President right after it was converted from a Pioneer supermarket.

I have never had any problems with them, and my favorite branch is the Citi branch in the MetLife Buidling/Grand Central which is small and friendly, open until 6 on weekdays and is never crowded. I have both business and personal accounts with Cit and they are reliable.

I would stay away from Chase. Consistently rude and incompetent service seems to be standard. The branches that were taken over from WAMU still have a few of the WAMU trained people and will do a better job for you if you feel you need to use Chase.

Chase is so awful that I see Chase employees do their banking at the above
menttioned Citi branch. (Chase employess wear Chase logo shirts)

HSBC and Astoria on 9th St, - I had positive experience with both these branches.

Bank of America - my husband had a business account with them for a while and felt the fees were high and the level of service poor.
