Any idea where in any borough I can get cheap artwork or pictures to hang on walls? I just bought a co-op apartment and the walls are all white and there are plenty of them!

    7th ave during the weekend when the artists come out. Also the weekend markets on Union square, Soho and such.

    If you want Brooklyn centric art, I really like the Artist Tom Keough. He has a website.

    You might also want to send a PM to Sweet Tea - her wife takes beautiful pictures and may have some for sale.

    Quig from this site is also an artist who has some really nice work.

    Good luck

    You can also PM me...Mr 5x5 is a painter and is very talented. (Seriously--no bias! Loved his work before I loved him.)

    Ikea? Noooooooooo!! Target?? If they had something on the shelves. Burlington Coat Factory? Great place to decorate your apartment if you want it to look like a DMV. No thanks.

    Plenty of great local artists to support as mentioned above. The Brooklyn Flea is going indoors to 1 Hanson Place, and some local artists will be showing throughout the winter.

    Check this list for local Gowanus artists. http://www.agastbrooklyn.com/studiomap.html

    Etsy has a ton of talented people that are providing unique affordable art.

    Its a great idea to support artists if your budget allows. Who knows, they may become famous and you'll have made an investment !

    But, if you need ALOT of pictures to use as filler in between the original artwork you are purchasing, this is a cheap trick I learned from a decorator: go to The Strand, B&N or some such store and buy an art or photography book. Cut out pages of images you like with an exacto knife, and put in cheap matted frames from Target or Ikea. Think about frame sizes when you are choosing your book though, because you will probably need to crop the book pages to fit.

    jumping on d_luxx's idea, you can also try the art and paper stores on 18th street between 5th and 6th aves in manhattan. printicon, paper presentation and a.i.friedman all have really gorgeous stuff in different sizes that's probably meant to be used as wrapping paper or for decoupage or whatever, but if you like graphic art and patterns, it looks really awesome in frames.

    I've actually purchased great, inexpensive original art on ebay. You have to plow though a lot of garbage but there are gems to be found in a variety of sizes and mediums, for example Japanese prints and American outsider art.

    i got a huge B&W print of the Flatiron building (probably 5' x4') at Ikea... it really fills up the space and was ~$200.... highly recommend you at least check out Ikea

    I know some artists who can sell their original artworks reasonable price. One of them is a photographer, another is a painter.

    The photographs are around $60 with frames. I cannot post his work here but if you are interested, send me an email.

    The painter has been working pencil and water-color designs, I do not know the price but you can see it here;
