How is DirecTV in WT?

I'm moving back to Windsor Terrace next month. I'm renting a house and would love to get a satellite dish. Specifically, I'll be on Windsor Place, btw 7th and 8th Aves.

Does anybody know how the DirecTV reception/service is in the area? I'd hate to get a dish and then find out the reception goes in and out.

Greatly appreciate the help!

From my understanding - since the signal is coming from a satellite, the quality of service is largely based on your ability to have a clear line of sight to the southern sky, and partially affected by weather, meaning that your quality of service won't vary by neighborhood so much as by installation conditions.

All that being said, I'm in South Slope and have had great service. The installers are local meaning that they're used to installing and dealing with positioning the dish to get a line of sight around neighboring buildings, city trees, etc. They make sure they have a strong signal before they leave, so I can't imagine you'll have troubles.

In the 4 months I've had it, the service flickered out once in a super severe storm. I just had to turn the box off and on (or reset it, forget which) and we were good to go again. I love love DirecTV and my HDDVR box, Sunday Ticket, and the "mix" channels. Not giving it up. Ever!

Your response was very helpful, not to mention encouraging. I'm excited to get a dish.

    Thanks again!

Make sure when they install it they are not installing it through a leafless tree. If that happens, come spring you won't have any reception.

The biggest problem with DirecTV is not having Versus. When will they settle there problems with Versus?

Very good point, I might not have thought of that. Thank you!

welcome to the nabe. i'm a few blocks form there and i love love love my dish. mine very, very rarely goes out due to weather (it used to, but when they came to hook up my DVR they calibrated something and now it's perfect).

AND, i don't have to give any $$ to time warner cable, which makes me do a little happy dance.
