Cat veterinarian in the Slope

Hello, I'm moving to Park Slope and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good vet in the area. I've been taking my cat to a wonderful cats only clinic in Manhattan but it would be nice to stay local.

There is a cat clinic on 5th Avenue but I have only heard bad things about it.

I love Dr. Maddon at Park Slope Veterinary Care (5th Ave between 7th & 8th Street). My old guy died a few months ago - but I had brought him to Dr. Maddon 7 months before in an emergency - my baby stayed in the hospital for 4 nights and i was told if I didn't get him in when I did he would have died during the night. As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Maddon gave me 7 more good months with my cat. This cat was also a very difficult one at the vet (when he was younger he had to be sedated for vet visits) - Maddon was sooooo good with him and tried to do everything as quickly as possible so as not to stress out an old cat.

There was recently a similar thread on the pets board:

I have a dog but have been very happy with Prospect Park Animal Clinic. If it were closer, my other choice would be Hope on Atlantic (several friends have had great experiences there with very sick and/or dying pets).

I love the folks at Animal Kind on 7th Avenue and 11th street. They are pricey, but worth it in my opinion - always very genuine, caring and respectful.

I'm with peanuts there, I love Drs. Parker and Maddon at Park Slope Veterinary on 5th Avenue. I have lived here for many years and been to a lot of different vets in that time, including the others mentioned above and while they were fine, I feel Drs. parker and Maddon have an edge on them. i also feel that they saved my cat's life a few months back, as well as making him healthy and happy once again last month when he was blocked for the 3rd time.

While they aren't cheap, they listen to your concerns, and try to work with you in many ways, emotionally and financially. I will never take any of my animals to another vet.

I had a good experience with Animal Kind but they misdiagnosed my sister's cat with cancer when he didn't have it! So watch out...

I also went to a Dr. Diaz in Williamsburg who was fine.

I've heard awesome things about Hope Veterinary Clinic in Boerum Hill. That's my next move.

Do not use the place on 5th Ave. You might as well get some stranger on the street look at your cat.

We took our 15 year old 10 lbs there because she was starting to loose a lot of weight and not eating. The said that she was just old and there was nothing we could do.

We got a recommendation to use University Animal Clinic in Manhattan ( 63rd and York Ave) They took her in and works some kind of voodoo and she came home good as new.

I know its a pain being in Manhattan and all but the fixed up our cat.

Do not go to 5th Ave Cat Clinic. 5th Ave and President.

BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

University is on E 66th St between 1st and 2nd Aves. The Animal Medical Center is on York and 63rd. My dog had major, major surgery there (at the AMC), and they are very expensive but worth every penny.

5th Avenue Cat Clinic is the worst. We go to Hope on Atlantic Ave.

i love animal kind and my cat has gotten exceptional care from dr gibson. if they weren't here i'd go to hope. or the animal medical center in the city.

i have heard one bad thing after another about 5th ave cat clinic. i know of at least two cats they seriously misdiagnosed--including flexichick's late cat.

Hey, Brooklynpotter I second the recommendation of Animal Kind. I have taken my pets there for over a decade. As well as providing "well care" and dealing with health issues that just come up during a dog or cat's life time they are as close to a "trauma center" as this borough can provide.

Thanks for posting the emergency hospital number in Brooklyn LTS. My baby died on Labor Day and Dr. Maddon was closed so that's were I had to bring my cat. Obviously I have no way of judging the care at the emergency vet hosp but they were very kind to me. I have to also say that Dr. Maddon called me the following night and spoke to me for 20 minutes. Of course there's always a little guilt when you lose a pet no matter how old or no matter how sick - you always think you could have done more. He assured me that we did EVERYTHING for him.

Peanuts, sorry to hear about your baby.

My cat died at the emergency vet too (when they used to have a 2nd location in Bay Ridge). I believe that by the time I got her there, it was much too late ... but they were very kind to me and I think they did everything they could. The vet even called me a few days later when I was calmer and had some additional questions. As opposed to the fucktards at 5th Ave Cat Clinic - where Dr. Bregman basically fought with me and tried to charge me $6 to have my other cat's records moved to a new vet.......even after all I had been through - it was just one more giant "fuck you" from them to me

Another vote for Park Slope Veterinary on 5th Avenue here. Dr. Maddon was great when our cat had a condition recently, and we were also pleased with Dr. Vinitsky when she treated the little guy another time. They are caring, they listen, and are also as practical as possible in proscribing a course of treatment.

Flexi - so sorry about your cat too. My cat actually died at home (much better than at the vet) - I got to lay with him and comfort him until he died. He was almost 18 and had was on thyroid meds, subcutaneous fluids with extra potassium, and hormone shots for anemia. He was a fighter but eventually got too weak to go on. When I went to the emergency clinic, they didn't rush me and let me spend extra time with him.
I'm sorry you had to suffer because of a misdiagnosis at the cat clinic - I have never heard a good thing about them - amazing with the other quality vets in the area that they are still in business.
