PS 16 Basketball fundraiser scam?

Some kid, must be about ten years old, has come to my house three times so far asking for donations for the PS 16 boys basketball team. The first time he was with someone who seemed to be his mom, who stayed on the sidewalk and kept prompting him. The second time my wife gave him some money, and the last time was tonight. He was mumbling so I couldn't really hear him, and he was holding up a sheet of paper in a plastic sleeve, but I couldn't read what was on it. Anyone seen him? Is this BS? Seemed kind of dodgy.

If it's not a scam, it's a half-assed fundraiser.

I think that I saw this kid on Plaza Street recently. I didn't let him get into his spiel, I just walked right past.

You could always call the school and ask if they have a fundraiser going.

I only give to legit places. schools mostly raise their money through candy sales and carnivals.

the smart scamers these days have fake candy sales too. usually the candy is different .

Tell the kid to beat it! lol

I don't hand cash out to anyone in the street. That's the oldest trick in the book, and a good way to get sucker punched, and robbed!

about 2 months ago -- they were pushing this crap on a Sunday inside the Chase bank ATM area on Flatbush near G.A.P.

Don't say "your sorry that you don't have any money. "

Don't say anything / walk away or just close your door.

acknowledging these people in any manner just encourages this behavior.

ha! Some kid was standing outside chase this Saturday and asked me if I had any change I said yep, and kept walking...
Yeah I have change but not for you!
