Search Helicopter

Always good to be woken up at 3:30 AM by a search helicopter complete with spotlight. There was one overhead for a good long while at that hour this morning, a few blocks north of Park Place--if I had to guess I'd say around Bergen and Underhill. Anyone know what was going on? (Unless it was all just a dream.)

Yeah, brought back 9/11 memories. They were right over our back yards Prospect Place near Vandy, between St. Marks. Very militaristic. There were two of them hovering around for quite a while. Do you have the site for Gothamist entry? Thanks.

looks like sometime after the helicopters all left Namaskar had their ATM outside the store stolen too. Vandy was the wild west last night, it seems

What happened to foot police and patrol cars? Someone once told me that we are on the edge of the Precinct and so not patrolled as well.

Ah yes, I have lived in the same home in Prospect Place from 1979-84 and again from '91-present. I has become a "better" neighborhood in many ways, but I still don't understand why we don't see cops "on the beat." Just my ramblings in spite of the articles, the gentrification, etc. Thanks.

I often see cops walking on our side of Flatbush Ave.

...did you read how the numbers of cops have gone down? Beat cops (what I call Prevention or deterrance cops) seem to now be restricted to Operation Impact areas.

Every place else only gets what I will call "response cops".

Sorry, didn't have time to read as I am cleaning, working, etc. I do know this. Instead we are living in a neglect/police state/outcry/ignore/neglect cycle.
    Thanks.

This was seriously intense. Had me and the wife out of bed at 3:30am looking out the window. Two helis flying low kept shining their searchlights all around. Every time it swept passed our window the whole bedroom would light up. Went on for a good long while. Perp search sounds about right. Or Operation Neighborhood Awaken.

Yeah, that disturbed me too. Earplugs did not solve the problem. I wonder if anyone out there called 311 to report a rotorcraft disturbing the peace.
