Watch Out! Blagger (robbery attack) Incident on 4th av

Hi.

I just want to report that that last weekend (Friday or Saturday), one of my friend was attacked by group of people around 4th avenue and 6th street. He said he was walking on the street, and when he realized there was a group of people surrounding him. Without a word, they grabbed his shirt and threw him down on the ground, and started kicking and hitting him. They did not take his wallet, they took his iPhone that he was listening music. It was around 12:30 am. He was not paying attention too much about how the people look like, race or age, but it was about 8 people. I hope they get caught, but it does not hurt to be careful...

    Can someone translate this? Blagger?

Blagger is British slang for robber.

Guys, English isn't her first language - wanna cut her a little slack? I'm sure you all speak multiple languages fluently, but others aren't so talented.

8 people and you don't recognize their race? must have been a serious blagging.

Really? This person does a nice thing by trying to inform us all of an attack in the neighborhood and this is the reaction.
you wonder why this board sucks

Mod Note: As per your request (and as per the usual site rules) the rude comments made towards the OP were removed. Folks, pls don't attack yr neighbors when they are only trying to help

The person who got attacked did not remember the race or age of the attackers, probably both because he was listening music with big volume and he was on the ground getting kicked in the stomach next moment he realized somebody is around.

I apologize about my misspelling/miss-wording caused confusion to some people. I have corrected the words which were pointed out. I have spellchecker, but when I am not typing the right word it does not get picked.

I realize that it could be confusing and annoying when there were some mistakes in the writing, but it is very hurtful to be picked on like couple people did here, when I posted the thread with good and serious intention. I have been living here in US for many years and using English for both in personal and professional life, but it is still very difficult to get a language perfectly correct. I admit that I do not pay as much attention that I do for something like collage paper or job application, but I appreciate if you could just use some imagination for some obvious ones.

That sucks! Was he hurt very badly? I often seen teens roaming near there late. I guess JJ Byrne park is a good gathering point.

I've seen some groups of teen boys roaming around here late at night and some of them seemed rough enough that I just cut the dog walk short and went home. I don't think I'm overly fearful of groups of young boys, possibly suspicious of shenanigans, but not afraid.

Gretch, just ignore snarky posts about mistakes. It's good to remind people to be aware of their surroundings (like not walking around with headphones late at night).

MODS: the editing of this makes it look like Gretch was the one who made the rude comments. Anybody who comes along and reads this now won't realize that they didn't come from her. Any way of cleaning this up a bit to make it clearer?

I appreciate the warning she (tried) to give AND the effort it takes to do write in a language which is not your native tongue. I hope when I speak Spanish people are not as critical of my language mistakes.

    Mod: FIXED, Thx!

Even though we'd like to consider PS a very safe nabe, some parts of 4th ave are still pre-gentrification. If that's a word. Unless I'm with my boyfriend, I move over to 5th ave when walking in the more southern Slope. Be careful everyone and remember to put away the headphones and cell phones!

My friend was not badly hurt, though he is still kind of in shock.
I agree that listening to music and not paying attention is not very safe when you are walking back late at night...

About writing, thanks to all for understanding and support.

Usually I appreciate somebody correcting my writing, because otherwise you would not notice and thus you would not get better. I just think people does not need to be mean or harsh about it.

Park Slope needs a neighborhood watch. Do people in the neighborhood know each other well enough to pull off forming a neighborhood watch?

gretch, were the police called and was there a follow up on the complaint ,if one was filed?

MOD NOTE: Thanks for bringing this back on-topic. Recent riffs on the tired language mocking issue (and related requests for moderation) have been removed...again. If there's a need for moderation a 3rd time here then the lucky offenders will receive a nice prize, so MOVE ON please.

Gretch, thank you for the heads up. Like Hamilton, I would be interested to know whether there was a police report.

Also, ignore any rude remarks -- personally, I thank you for using the truly awesome UK-English word "blag," which really should make the transition to the US. I knew exactly what you meant, but maybe that's just because I watch lots of UK crime shows.

This is a nazi thread. And I could say that without even reading any of the posts. At the very least it's confusing. Mods, MODS! I'm confused... Did anyone get banned? Is Julius Orange just on the 15 DL or out for the season?

    Gretch,

Thanks for the warning! I recently moved from 5th Ave to CHN, but I come back to shop at times.

4th Ave., never felt safe. I hope that changes soon though.

Honestly I feel bad about the incident, but people have to remember that we live a city with crime. I take off my headphone's when it's dark when I walk around. With all the reports in the past few years of incident's like this, it should give more reason to be extra careful.
