anyone know how much Eastern Athletic costs?

thinking of moving to sterling & washington. it seems that EAC is the closest, but i hear that its very expensive. I called for pricing..and they wont give ANY information over the phone. SO annoying.

crunch is a bit of a hike. are there any non-chain (ahem cheap) local gyms on washington?

Eastern Athletic is $120 a month after you put down two months, plus possibly an initiation fee (but they have promotions).

damn. does it come with free liposuction?

Yeah. I went there for a short time... the member services management are assholes. I went there on a promotion type thing. (Pay the year in advance, then you have 3 months to decide if you like it.... and then pay only for the 3 months.) I decided I didn't like it and then spent 2+ weeks trying to get my promised refund. This involved certified letters and so on. (The certified letters are required by them! They won't accept the cancellation form in-person -- and they wouldn't send me a cancellation form... so I had to PICK IT UP in person, but I couldn't drop it off in person. Oh, and they were irrational dicks about the whole thing.)

The club itself is OK. The lockerooms are clean and nice. Though it's split into like 4 floors... so, if you want to do some cardio, go find a place to stretch and do sit ups, then go do weights, then maybe stretch.... you're wandering up and down stairs. It's sort of odd. I went to the Bklyn Heights branch once or twice, that was much better.

I also found it a little creepy because they don't seem to have many members at the this branch. So it's really quiet. Don't remember if they had many classes... didn't seem to. Oh, and they're hours are weird. They're in the Synagogue building, so it closed at like 4:00 on Fridays.[/i][/b]

that is really bizarre. I can imagine that they are assholes since they refuse to give ANY information about pricing unless its in person. Its kind of shocking that there isnt ANY other gym on Washington, Underhill or Vanderbilt?? someone needs to open a NYSC or something on Washington.

Maybe I'll sell you my EAC membership that's not getting much use. It's about $90 per month.

one time a few years ago one of hte workers also bent the locks back on the locker i was using, so that unbeknownst to me, when i used my lock on it, it wasn't locking anything at all.

while i was working out, they just opened up my locker and stole some money.

i put up a sign the next time i went and before my workout was even over, the sign was ripped off.

but other than that, great facilities, no lines, great place to do a weights workout after running in the park.

not much eye candy, though.

Unless its' a well-known, franchise type gym, no gym will quote you over the phone.

I belong there- I like it, and I find the member services people to be fine. There's one girl there (blanking out on her name) that is downright super friendly. It's clean, empty (I like that in a gym), and I don't mind the multi-floor thing- makes it that much more private.

vaguely unrelated, but i've been gym shopping lately and body reserve on 5th and union seems good. $65/month, so... that's reasonable.
the guy working, antonio, was super friendly and helpful. it's a hike, but i think it's farthest i could ever see myself walking.

If you're willing to travel, there's a new Planet Fitness in downtown Brooklyn (around Fulton Mall) that's offering something like a $29 enrollment and $10/month for your first year. I can't vouch for them, but you can't complain about the price!

I went to check out EAC yesterday - Right now it's 120 per month with a $99 initiation fee. The year-long membership was about 1380 and would last for 14mos. very expensive, but very close.

I noticed that place a few weeks ago, and I wondered if it was new. That's a GREAT price. So far, the Flatbush Crunch has not been the absolute mob scene that it was last winter (really, the January crowd slacked off right about the middle of January this year) so I can't complain (too much--I always hate the noise on Tuesday nights. Between the crazy-loud dance class with the shouting instructor and the DJ my ears don't know where to turn).
